We conduct our practices in compliance with the guidelines set forth by the Ontario Provincial Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC), Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories (OAML), and the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).

MLW KEY MILESTONES

1962
FOUNDATION

Medical Laboratories of Windsor (MLW) was established by Dr. Asselstine and his colleagues, including Dr. Yee, in response to the growing need for reliable diagnostic testing in the Windsor-Essex County area.

1970
Expansion with OHIP

The introduction of OHIP public health insurance provided coverage for laboratory and radiology services, facilitating MLW’s expansion across Windsor and Essex County, making laboratory services more accessible to patients.

1980
Leadership Transition

Dr. Asselstine retired, and Dr. Yee took over as president, medical director, and majority shareholder of MLW. He partnered with MDS as a minority shareholder to further the laboratory’s growth.

2008
Sole Proprietorship

Dr. Yee acquired full ownership of MLW by buying out MDS after they sold their laboratory operations to Life Labs, solidifying MLW as a sole proprietorship.

2024
Present Day

MLW has grown into a comprehensive community-based laboratory with a Core Laboratory, seven Specimen Collection centers, a dedicated courier system, and a billing department, employing over 100 staff members to serve the Windsor-Essex County community.

At MLW, we are proud to integrate the core requirements of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (ADA) guidelines and the Quality Management System (QMS) based on the ISO 15189:2007 Medical Laboratory Standard into our quality program.
